Boost Skin Glow with Vitamin C

Written By Tracey Loughran, Nutritionist and Naturopath

Vitamin C is an important antioxidant, plays an essential role in immunity, improves the absorption of iron from plant-based foods (called non-heme iron), helps with wound healing and is also important for collagen synthesis, essential for healthy skin.

Here are some foods containing Vitamin C:

These foods all contain Vitamin C (amounts per 100g)

* Red capsicum 85mg

* Yellow capsicum 45mg

* Kiwifruit 43mg

* Broccoli (fresh 53, microwaved 27mg)

* Red cabbage 35mg

* Fresh strawberries 23mg

* Fresh raspberries 15mg

* Cherry tomatoes 14mg

* Mango 12mg

- When it comes to Vitamin C, raw is best. Cutting, bruising, heating and storing can reduce this vitamin

- Microwaving or steaming veg is best as the Vitamin C can leach into water during cooking

- Top up Vitamin C daily as our bodies don’t store it.

- High doses of Vitamin C are popular in immune boosting supplements, however be aware that large amounts (more than 1,000mg per day) of Vitamin C may cause some gastrointestinal upset.

Health starts on the inside and shows on the outside.

Our bodies are in a constant state of regeneration. Cells are turned over, muscles and bones are constantly being rebuilt and our skin is replaced every 40-50 days. Our food forms the building blocks for our future self, so we literally are what we eat

Winter can be hard on our skin, making it the perfect time to focus on the nutrients that support your skin from the inside out!  The Taste Success six-week skin program is based on super clean eating, with delicious recipes containing an abundance of essential skin nutrients.
